Kate Hanshaw

Registered Veterinary Technician

Kate has been a member of the Valley West team since 2011 and is currently working as a Registered Veterinary Technician. She attended the Carver Career Center and Bridge Valley to earn her Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology in 2012. Kate has two dogs named Gypsie and Quincy and three cats named Mater, Kitten and LoKi Rex. Her interests include anything baby (two-legged or four-legged), being artsy (crocheting, painting, drawing), being outdoors (fishing, fourwheeling, hiking, etc), and yoga (acro, aerial and mat).

Gabrielle Haynes

Veterinary Nurse

Gabrielle has been a member of the Valley West team in a number of capacities since 2015, and is currently a veterinary nurse. She has two dogs, a Golden Retriever named Toby and a Basset Hound mix named Winnie, and two cats named Ramona and Dita. Gabby's interests include crafting, reading, being outdoors and gardening.

Hanna Skiles

Customer Service Team

Hanna has been on the Customer Service Team since 2017. She has two dogs, a German Shepherd named Jessie and a Basset Hound mix named Texas. Hanna's interest include traveling, singing and shopping, and she is currently enrolled in a program at the University of Charleston to earn her nursing degree.

Carly McConnell

Veterinary Nurse

Carly joined the Valley West team in October 2014 as a veterinary assistant after earning her Bachelor's degree in Natural Science. She has four dogs named Matty, Ava, Rufus and Scarlet as well as three cats named Bernie, Morris, and Missile Launcher. Carly's interests include hiking, board games, reading, spending time with her family, as well as fostering and caring for animals in addition to her own fur babies.

Chelsey Rhodes

Veterinary Nurse

Chelsey has been a member of our Elk Valley team since 2015. She has a dog named Roxy, four cats named Rune, Phoebe, Mouse Trap and King Fish, and a Ball Python snake named Ekans. Chelsey enjoys going to concerts, watching movies, playing video games, reading and hiking. In addition to working as a veterinary assistant, Chelsey is enrolled in a program at Ashworth College to become a Registered Veterinary Technician.

Molly Sterling

Office Manager

Molly graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and then went on to gain leadership and administrative skills working in the nonprofit sector. She joined the Valley West team in August 2018 and is currently the office manager. Molly has two fur babies who she calls her "girls," an Australian Shepherd mix named Murphy and a cat named Fern. Her interests include natural history, historical novels, fitness, walking and training Murphy and listening to music.

Traci Houchin

Customer Service Team

Traci joined the Elk Valley Customer Service Team in September 2018. She graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelors degree in Biology. Traci has a dog named Caesar and a cat named Lily, and she enjoys drawing, reading, listening to music, hiking, crafting and playing with her furbabies.

Nate Johnson

Veterinary Nurse

Nate has been a part of the Valley West team since July 2018 and has worked as a veterinary assistant on and off since 2012. He is currently one of Valley West's cat advocates and has been trained to uphold cat-friendly techniques for the health and happiness of our feline patients. In addition to his professional acheivements, Nate has also earned his Eagle Scout badge. His interests include doing anything outdoors, creating art, cooking and eating, travelling, playing and seeing live music, and spending time with his friends. He has a dog named Swami and two cats named Matoaka and Devil Anse Catfield.

Hayley Malcomb

Kennel Assistant

Hayley Malcomb joined the Valley West team in January 2019 as our Kennel Assistant. Residing in Boone County, she is an animal enthusiast! With a deep love for all animals, she is a pro at giving them the care and love that they need. Hayley has 1 Chihuahua, 2 mixed breed Chihuahuas, and 1 cat with Cerebellar Hypoplasia. Hayley has also previously owned a Standerbred Horse, Quarter Horse and Tennessee Walker. Her favorite hobbies include coming to work to care for Valley West's  boarding guests as well as being in the outdoors.

Victoria Epling

Veterinary Nurse

Victoria joined the Valley West team in February 2019 as a Veterinary Assistant. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal and Nutritional Sciences from West Virginia University in 2017 and is currently pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology. Victoria shares her home with her four cats, Finch, Minerva, Alphonse, and Tickles. Her interests include traveling, reading, cuddling her cats, and of course cheering on the Mountaineers.
